Examples of جُمْلَةٌ إِسْمِيَّةٌ

Let us do some example from سُورَةُ الْفَاتِحَةِ

ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

All praise is for Allah—Lord of all worlds [1:2]

ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful[1:3]

مَـٰلِكِ يَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ

Master of the Day of Judgment. [1:4]

Grammatical AnalysisMeaning
مُبْتَدأٌ
No relationship between ٱلْحَمْدُ and what comes after it, so this is a break in the chain.
Therefore, we will put ‘is’ after ٱلْحَمْدُ.
All praiseٱلْحَمْدُ
مُتَعَلِّقٌ بِالْخَبَرِ (جارٌّ وَمَجْرُورٌ)
A جارٌّ وَمَجْرُورٌ is always مُتَعَلِّقٌ بِالْخَبَرِ
for Allahلِلَّهِ
إِضَافَة وَصِفَةٌ لِلَفْظِ الجَلا لَةِ
The four properties of رَبِّ match the four properties of the word Allah.
Therefore رَبِّ is a صِفَةٌ for the word Allah.
رَبِّ is proper/definite because its مُضَافٌ إَلّيْهِ (i.e. ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ) is proper/definite.
Lord of all worldsرَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
صِفَةٌ لِلَفْظِ الجَلا لَةِ
Four properties match the four properties of the word Allah, so this is the second صِفَةٌ.
the Most Compassionateٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ
صِفَةٌ لِلَفْظِ الجَلا لَةِ
Four properties match the four properties of the word Allah, so this is the third صِفَةٌ.
Most Mercifulٱلرَّحِيمِ
إِضَافَتَانِ وَصِفَةٌ لِلَفْظِ الجَلا لَةِ
Four properties match the four properties of the word Allah, so this is the fourth صِفَةٌ.
This is also two إِضَافَةٌ chained together. The word ٱلدِّينِ is proper/definite because of ال, therefore its مُضَافٌ (i.e. يَوْمِ) is proper/definite. Since يَوْمِ is proper then its مُضَافٌ (i.e. مَـٰلِكِ) is also proper.
Master of the Day of Judgmentمَـٰلِكِ يَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ

Let us do some examples from سُورَةُ الْمُلْكِ

Example 1:

هُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيْرٌ

He is, over all things, competent [67:1]

Example 2:

لَهُمْ مَّغْفِرَةٌ وَأَجْرٌكَبِيْرٌ

For them is forgiveness and great reward [67:12]

Grammatical AnalysisMeaning
مُتَعَلِّقٌ بِالْخَبَرِFor themلَهُمْ
مُبْتَدأٌforgiveness and great rewardمَّغْفِرَةٌ وَأَجْرٌكَبِيْرٌ

We always label the مُرَكَّبٌ جَارِّيٌّ) جارٌّ وَمَجْرُورٌ) phrase as مُتَعَلِّقٌ بِالْخَبَرِ.

Since every جُمْلَةٌ إِسْمِيَّةٌ needs to have a مُبْتَدأٌ we have to label the rest of the ayah as the مُبْتَدأٌ. Also since مَّغْفِرَةٌ is connected by the وَ to أَجْرٌكَبِيْرٌ they are in the same bucket and can’t be seperated.

Also note أَجْرٌكَبِيْرٌ is a مُرَكَّبَ تَوْصِيْفِيٌّ phrase (in which one إِسْمٌ describes the other).

Example 3:

هُوَ الَّطِيْفُ الْخَبِيْرُ

He is Subtle, All Aware [67:14]

Grammatical AnalysisMeaning

خَبَرٌwe denied الَّطِيْفُ الْخَبِيْرُ

Remember that the names of Allah (swt) are not considered مَوْصُوْفٌ or صِفَةٌ so here we have 2 خَبَرٌ.

Example 4:

أَصْبَحَ مَا ؤُكُمْ غَوْرًا

Your water became absorbed [67:30]
