Sound

  • The hamza (هَمْزَة) can be pronounced as “a,” “i,” or “u,” depending on the vowel that comes with it. The vowel tells us exactly how the hamza should sound.
  • The sound comes from the lower throat.
  • Air is briefly stopped, then released.

وَمَا تَأْتِيهِم مِّنْ ءَايَةٍ مِّنْ ءَايَـٰتِ رَبِّهِمْ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ عَنْهَا مُعْرِضِينَ
Whenever a sign comes to them from their Lord, they turn away from it. [6:4]
