فِعْلٌ Types

فِعْلٌ fall under either one of the following four types:

1. اَلْمَاضِيٌّ : Past tense. For Example:

ضَرَبَ

He hit

2. اَلْمُضَارِعُ : Present and Future Tense. For Example:

يَضْرِبُ

He is hitting (present) or will hit (future)

3. اَلْأَمعرُ : Positive command/Imperative. For Example:

اِضْرِبْ

Hit!

4. اَلنَّهْيُ : Negative command/Prohibitive. For Example:

لَا تَضْرِبْ

Don’t hit!

Number of Letters in the Verb

Arabic فِعْلٌ (verb) are built from root letters, usually three letters but can come with additional letters.
