أَمْرٌ – Commanding

The steps for commanding are a bit complex than forbidding. There are upto 5 steps outlined below:

  1. Start with the Second Person
  2. Make it lightest (مَجْزُوْمٌ)
  3. Remove the first occurance of the letter ت
  4. If the word can be read, leave it alone, otherwise add a helper alif.
  5. Rules for determining the harakat for the alif:
    • If the second to last letter in the هُوَ present-tense has a ــُـ) ضَمَّة) then the helper alif gets a ــُـ.
    • Otherwise the helper alif gets a ــِـ) كَسْرَة). However, the exception to this rule is the أَسعلَمَ verb family. it gets a أَ. Verb families have not been introduced yet, these will be covered under عِلْمُ الصَّرْفِ. so don’t stress!)
